K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, established in 1997, is named in honor of the renowned Tamil scholar, K.A.P. Viswanatham. Initially offering 100 undergraduate seats in medicine, the institution expanded its academic horizons by introducing postgraduate programs in 2007.
